Co-founder, Govarsity & Co-founder, Dine with Khayelithsa
“I'm Luthando Dyasi from Khayelitsha, a local township situated here in Cape Town. I'm a Software Developer at rlabs, an orgarnisation that re-costructs communities through both technology and Training and Developement. I'm a co-founder of an educational start-up called Govarsity which is a plartform used to bridge the gap between High schools and Universities. We founded Govarsity in 2013 and won the Innovate the Cape competition and graduated in the Rlabs Innovation and Incubation propram in 2014. Currently, I mentor aspiring entreprenuers that enroll in the Innovate The Cape competion and I also do facilitation at an educational program called Have Fun. I'm also a co-founder of a start-up called called Dine with Khayelithsa, a conversational dinner that is meant to break racial, religious and cultural barriers and bridge the gap between Cities and Townships. I'm part of both the global EDtech and StartUp Weekend education community.”
Why do you want to be part of UCT Upstarts?
“Most Student dream of studying, graduating and working at a famous corporate company but Upstarts is changing that norm. Upstarts says, there's more to life than what you see. Upstarts is challenging students to unleash the greatness they sitting on. I want to be part of this great movement because I believe the next big thing will come from such. ”
How would you ‘Re-educate Education’?
“My idea is not building Educational tech products nor offering EdTech services but it is to build educational platforms that will bring together those who want to 'Re-educate Education' and make everything accessible to everyone. Being a catalyst between educational startups and their market by breaking the ADOPTION barrier that most startups suffer from will indeed 'Re-educate Education'.”
