CEO & Co-founder of the Startup School. Founder of Ed/All
“I am vehemently pursuing solutions to social challenges. I believe that inclusive models of education, entrepreneurship and the ecosystems that house these are the key to unlocking Africa's potential. I have held various roles at big and small companies, from start-ups to corporates and everything in between. I was the former Chief of Development at GetSmarter-Africa's largest online education company. I have recently co-founded the Startup School which aims to create an inclusive ecosystem of entrepreneurial learning, mentoring, funding, and (ad)venturing. I spend my spare time mentoring tech and social enterprise start-ups. I am also currently completing my Masters in Inclusive Innovation at UCT's Graduate School of Business, where my research is focused on building high-quality education interventions that are inclusive and scalable across the African continent.”
Why do you want to be part of UCT Upstarts?
“More students need to be practicing entrepreneurs, there is no better time to start a business than while you are a student. Upstarts encourages this and SA needs more entrepreneurs and start ups to create jobs and not just graduates that consume existing jobs.”
How would you ‘Re-educate Education’?
“I believe the time has come for us to seriously consider alternative systems. Our education system is laden with so many systemic failures that need to be ameliorated. I would push public sector to allocate budget to different initiatives and for entrepreneurs to pilot programmes that leverage the power of technology to create more inclusive systems.”
